Quake of 4.8 magnitude strikes near Fujairah, Shaking buildings and triggering Panic

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near the Emirate of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, triggering panic and shaking buildings, according to the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Tremors felt in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi

The quake struck at 4:29 AM local time, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers northeast of Fujairah city. Tremors were felt across the UAE, including in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, but no immediate reports of serious damage or casualties have been received.

Residents Advised to Stay Calm and Follow Guidelines

NCMS has advised residents to stay calm and follow safety guidelines while assessing any possible damage. The quake was the strongest to hit the UAE in recent years, with a previous 4.5 magnitude earthquake striking in 2019 near Ras Al Khaimah.

No Tsunami Warning Issued

The UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has confirmed that there is no tsunami threat following the earthquake and has urged the public to stay informed and follow official updates.

Residents are reminded to follow earthquake safety measures, including: - Stay calm and follow instructions from authorities - Drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy table or desk, and hold on - Stay away from windows and exterior walls - If outdoors, move away from buildings, trees, and power lines
